Dot Mandala Painting Designs

Make your own wall decor by painting these beautiful mandalas on a canvas or a wooden board. It is a fun to do and super relaxing activity.
And you don’t need to buy dotting tools for making these mandala painting designs. You can do this using things at home. Checkout the things you need and instructions down below!

What you need?

  • Acrylic Paint
  • Geometry Set (Compass, Protractor and Scale)
  • Paint Brush
  • Dotting Tool or Toothpick, Pencil with rubber back, Ear bud and/or back of a paint brush
  • Wooden Canvas / Wooden Board

How to make this?

Step 1: Wipe Clean the Wooden board/Canvas

Use a cloth and clean the wooden board or canvas before you start painting. This is to avoid any dust particles getting stuck when painting.

Step 2: Paint the wooden block/canvas

Pick your base or background color for painting the entire canvas. User a darker (navy blue, dark purple, black) or very light colors (baby pink, baby blue, baby green) so that your Mandala can pop.

Use your 1″ flat brush and begin painting your canvas with the color of your choice. Let it dry for 5 to 6 hours.

Step 3: Create your Mandala design

You can start with some basic Mandala design that is simple to create. Like the one below.

Begin with measuring your block using a scale. Draw a line through the center of the width and height. Trace the diagonal lines at the angle of 45 degrees. Now use a compass and draw circles of different size.

Tip: You can find your design online as well and trace your design on your canvas using a carbon tracing paper.

Step 4: Begin Painting the Mandala

Use your “dotter tools” and multi-surface acrylic paints to make dots on your mandala pattern until your pattern is filled in.

Paint Brush and Paint

Use the appropriately sized “dotter tool” for each dot. I used the back of paint brushes, toothpick and earbuds as my dotting tools.

TIP: Replenish your “dotter tool” with paint frequently. The more paint on your tool, the bigger the dot. For large dots, swirl your “dotter tool” in a circle to reach the desired size of the dot.

Let it dry for 5 to 6 hours. Your Mandala Wall Decor is ready. Try out the other designs as well and remember to post pictures in the comments section below 🙂
